Mercer has announced the addition of a new independent non-executive director, Pauline Vamos, to the Mercer Superannuation (Australia) Limited (MSAL) Board, with effect from 1 July 2017.

Jan Swinhoe, Chair of MSAL said, “we are thrilled to welcome Pauline to the Board. Her appointment delivers a strong message that we are committed to building our expertise in the superannuation space.”

Ben Walsh, Managing Director & CEO of Mercer Australia, is delighted about the additional diversity of experience, attributes, and skills Ms Vamos will bring to the Board.

“Pauline is a leading figure and influencer within the financial services industry and is known for driving policy, governance and regulation excellence - all attributes which mirror the Board’s values and vision. Her appointment firmly establishes our determination in ensuring we have the right firepower behind us to achieve our growth objectives and deliver value-added services to clients.”

Having worked with industry bodies, regulators and super funds, Ms Vamos has an unparalleled knowledge of the superannuation industry and an understanding of the issues that are most important to clients and members.

Upon joining the Board, Ms Vamos said, “Mercer’s acquisition of Pillar Administration and partnership with Virgin Money have created a real buzz in the superannuation industry. As a highly regarded provider of holistic services for the industry,  Mercer is also uniquely positioned at a time when many funds are reviewing  their merger and consolidation options in light of the changing regulatory and competitive environment. It’s an exciting time to join the Board.”

Ms Vamos has held a number of executive and directorial positions within the financial services industry. Previous positions include Chief Executive Officer at the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA) and director of financial services regulation – licensing and business operations at the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC). Ms Vamos is a qualified lawyer and a previous member of the peak advisory and consultative groups on pension and superannuation reform for federal, state and local Governments.

Voted ‘most influential in the financial services industry’ by Money Management as well as ‘most influential in the superannuation industry’ by Super Review, Ms Vamos is a notable figure. In 2013, Ms Vamos was recognised as one of the ‘Australian Financial Review and Westpac 100 Women of Influence’. She was also awarded the Superannuation Executive of the Year in the Women in Financial Services Awards 2016. In that same year, Ms Vamos was elected an ASFA Life Member in recognition of long-standing service to ASFA and the superannuation industry.

“The superannuation industry is facing fierce disruption and regulatory change, and we need to be at the forefront to ensure that delivery to our clients is being overseen by the best talent the industry has to offer. Pauline’s appointment adds to the appointments of Jan Swinhoe, Melinda Snowden, John Gee, Sue O’Connor and Darren Wickham during the past three years,” Mr Walsh said.
