Mercer, has appointed financial services executive Craig Rice to lead its Administration Services business, formerly known as Pillar Administration.

With more than 20 years of senior leadership experience, Mr Rice joins Mercer from patient finance provider MiFund, where he held the role of Head of Operations. He was previously the Executive General Manager of Client Services at superannuation service provider, Superpartners.

Based in Wollongong, Mercer Administration Services provides superannuation services to large-scale funds, with more than $100 billion in funds under administration across 1.1 million member accounts. As one of the largest employers in the Illawarra region, more than 500 Mercer colleagues are based in the Wollongong offices.

The business was previously under the leadership of Jo-Anne Bloch for two years, who, in her current role as Head of Industry and Public Sector Funds, will continue to lead the client service teams.

Chris Stevens, Mercer’s Commercial Operations Leader, said Mr Rice’s expertise would bolster the business’ customer-centric approach and community-minded culture.

“With Craig at the helm, drawing on his experience in high-volume, fast-paced and highly regulated customer focused environments, we have every confidence that Mercer Administration Services will go from strength to strength,” said Mr Stevens.

“This includes our ongoing commitment to the Illawarra region, and continuing the work that Jo-Anne Bloch has driven with our valued community partners such as the University of Wollongong and Mentor Walks. We are active participants in local business associations including the Illawarra Chamber of Commerce, Illawarra Women in Business, and The Illawarra Connection, to name a few,” he said.

Mr Rice said he was looking forward to returning to work in his home town.

“I’m delighted to be working with the team at Mercer to further grow Administration Services and reinforce its position as an industry leader. I look forward to working with clients and supporting the financial needs of their members to secure their retirement wealth,” said Mr Rice.

“Having grown up in the area and graduated from the University of Wollongong, I am particularly excited to be returning to the Illawarra. I’m a strong advocate of the region and will continue to strengthen our partnerships to shape the minds of local graduates, support innovation, and promote the Illawarra as a thriving place to live and work,” he said.

Mr Rice commences with Mercer in July.
