Russell Mason

Russell Mason

Russell is a Principal and Worldwide Partner of Mercer, National Business Leader for Industry/Multi-Employer Superannuation and Asia Pacific Leader for Defined Contribution Consulting. After completing an Arts/Law degree at Macquarie University, Russell practiced as a solicitor prior to entering the superannuation industry.

 

Since joining Mercer in 1987 Russell has worked in all aspects of superannuation, with both corporate, industry and multi-employer superannuation funds. He has been involved in advising both Australian and multi-national corporations in the areas of benefit design, strategy, insurance, investments and compliance.  As National Business Leader for Industry/Multi-Employer Superannuation, Russell has specifically advised industry funds on administration arrangements, competitive structures and strategic directions. In dealing with these funds Russell has also developed an extensive knowledge of industrial relations practice and procedures.

 

Russell is a Director of the Board of the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia, the peak body in Australia representating the superannuation industry. Russell is also a member of the Editorial Board of Superfunds magazine, a member of the NSW Executive and National Conference Committee; and a former Chair of the NSW Executive of ASFA.

 


Brent Tulk

Brent Tulk

Brent Tulk is a Principal of the retirement practice of Mercer. Brent's role at Mercer includes consulting to corporates, corporate superannuation funds and industry funds in relation to superannuation strategies, benefit design, legislative compliance and project management. He also performs fund secretarial duties and has experience in actuarial matters including actuarial reviews and accounting disclosures.

 

Brent has been working in the superannuation industry for 9 years, and has been working with Mercer since 1997. Previously Brent has worked as a practicing lawyer with a commercial law firm.

 

Brent holds a Bachelor of Economics Degree and Bachelor of Law Degree.

 


Martin Horan

Martin Horan

Martin joined Mercer in 2005, at the time of Mercer’s acquisition of the Mellon business in Australia and has headed the Mercer Legal consulting practice nationally since July 2007.  Martin had previously managed the legal consulting practice within Mellon and predecessor companies. Martin’s background is in commercial law and for the last 15 years he has practised mainly in the areas of financial services and employee benefits. His clients include trustees of superannuation and pension funds, their sponsoring employers and financial institutions. He advises some of Australia’s largest financial institutions and funds in areas such as mergers and product development, general governance and compliance and fiduciary obligations under trust law. Martin acted for several years as Chairman of Directors of Mercer Benefit Nominees Limited (previously Mellon Nominees Limited), a company that acted as trustee of a range of public offer, corporate and industry superannuation funds.

 

Martin is a regular presenter at client and financial services industry forums and conferences, including the Law Council of Australia’s Superannuation Law Conference in February 2007, where he presented on recent developments in relevant Australian case law.

 


Simon Eagleton

Simon Eagleton

Simon Eagleton is the Business Leader for Mercer’s investment consulting business in Australia and New Zealand. He is based in Mercer’s Sydney office.

 

Simon advises Australian clients on all aspects of their investment programs. His particular areas of expertise are asset-liability modelling and strategy development. Simon is also a member of Mercer Investment Consulting’s Australian Investment Policy Committee, responsible for establishing Mercer’s house policy on investment strategy and manager configuration issues.

 

Simon holds a Bachelor of Economics degree from the Australian National University and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia.

 


Darren Wickham

Darren Wickham

Darren Wickham is an Actuary and Principal in Mercer’s retirement practice and joined as a result of the acquisition of Mellon, where he was Head of Superannuation Consulting for NSW.

 

Darren has worked in superannuation and life insurance for more than 13 years and has specialised in valuing employee benefits including superannuation, executive options and other entitlements. He was recently the Editor of the actuarial profession’s magazine - Actuary Australia and was Chief Examiner for the Institute of Actuaries professional examination in Superannuation. He has sat (and is sitting) on several Institute committees including Retirement Incomes Taskforce, Employee Entitlements and Accounts & Investments. More recently, Darren is a member of the Institute’s Super Tax Reform Task Force and has constructed a comprehensive model of tax revenue from and growth of assets in Australia’s superannuation system. He has written various papers on superannuation and employee benefit related matters.

 

Darren has a Masters in Economics (Actuarial Major) from Macquarie University and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia.

 


Kathryn Daniels

Kathryn Daniels

Kathryn is a member of the actuarial team in our Adelaide office and acts as actuary to a number of the Adelaide, Perth and Sydney defined benefit funds.

 

She has been with Mercer since March 2004, prior to which she was employed by Watson Wyatt in Melbourne for 7 years. At Watson Wyatt, Kathryn worked in a support consultant role and was actuary to defined benefit funds. Kathryn is a bright, energetic actuary, who in her time with Mercer has demonstrated her ability to work closely with clients, along with attention to detail, which makes her ideal for a client relationship and project management role.

 

She has a Bachelor of Science (in Mathematical and Computer Science) Degree from The University of Adelaide and has been a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia since 2002.
